So how much silver is in this junker in OZs? I have 12 of them that I think I'll pass on to APMEX for something a little more identifiable.

More info: If my math is correct it is about .377 troy according to the info I garnished form this page. http://www.24carat.co.uk/mexico1968o...esosframe.html

Re: Confirm info on Libertad

Confused....

Are you looking for specific info on the coin you have pictured or an Ag Libertad as your thread is titled?

Libertad's can be confusing because many folks call Onza's "Libertads", and Onza's depending on the date, look different and have different amounts of Ag.

There is some great info that's been posted in one or more of these forms about these coins. One thread in particular sorts the differences out. If you interested do a search.

Actual Silver Weight should be .5209 troy, about 6 bucks per coin. You might do better selling on E-Bay with a minimum bid:bandito:

Re: Confirm info on Libertad

GM,

that thing actually has Libertad stamped on the edge, so I assume it is a Libertad. All I want to know is how much troy silver it contains for certain.

LM,

are you certain? the reason I ask is because the link I provided says the weights are in grams.

Re: Confirm info on Libertad

I pulled a 25 peso coin out of my junk silver collection, around the edge of the coin are the spanish words-INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD The coin weights 22.5 grams x .720 purity = 16.2 grams pure silver, devide 16.2 by 31.103477 = .520842 actual silver weight in troy ounces. The coins will vary slightly in weight as I have a few coins that weigh 22.6 grams on my cheapy scale. Enjoy your coins:wink: SILVER CONTENT: .5209

Re: Confirm info on Libertad

Thank you sir the info is much appreciated. I think I'll hold off until silver goes nuts again. The peeps on Ebay are suckers when silver is off the charts. Kind of like I was a sucker when I bought these thinking they were .999 silver. No that doesn't mean I'll be doing any false advertising, just that people were paying 25% over spot if not more in May.

Re: Confirm info on Libertad

everyone in here seems to like maple leaf and silver eagle coins (myself included) but nobody ever says they buy mexican libertad 1 oz coins...any reason?

do they typically sell for less than maples/eagles? or do they sell for more? i just checked ebay and there arent as many auctions for them either.

I like them, but they don't seem as recognizable, and as you mentioned, there's a lot of confusion about them. Thus, I've only bought a few for my own enjoyment of them.

1 Onza Plata Pura - Ley 999 seems pretty recognizable to me

I love the older design. The chick is half naked and eagle is chompin a snake. What's not to love!?

Agree, I like Mexican silver a lot... 1 Onza Plata Pura - Ley 999 tells you all you need to know. The Mexico City mint is the oldest mint in the new world and their coins are good.

All the Mexican silver I know of states the purity and weight on the obverse.

Yeah, but I don't like the newer reverse as much. The older style has an eagle standing on a cactus eating a snake. That's one bad bird.

Here's more than you probably want to know about the origin of the Mexican Coat of Arms.
